Golden Sourdough French Toast Stack

Ingredients:

  • 4 thick slices sourdough bread
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tbsp butter (for cooking)
  • Maple syrup (for serving)
  • Fresh berries (optional)
  • Powdered sugar (optional)

Step-by-Step Recipe:

  1. Make the custard
In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  2. Heat the pan
Place a pan on medium heat and add butter. Let it melt evenly.
  3. Dip the bread
Dip each slice of sourdough into the custard, coating both sides lightly (don’t soak too long).
  4. Cook the toast
Place the bread in the pan and cook for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Cook remaining slices
Repeat with the rest, adding more butter if needed.
  6. Stack and serve
Stack the toast, add butter on top, drizzle maple syrup, and garnish with berries and powdered sugar.

Tip:
Use slightly stale sourdough for the best texture—it absorbs the custard perfectly without getting too soggy.
