Ingredients:
- 4 thick slices sourdough bread
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
- 2 tbsp butter (for cooking)
- Maple syrup (for serving)
- Fresh berries (optional)
- Powdered sugar (optional)
Step-by-Step Recipe:
- Make the custard
In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined. - Heat the pan
Place a pan on medium heat and add butter. Let it melt evenly. - Dip the bread
Dip each slice of sourdough into the custard, coating both sides lightly (don’t soak too long). - Cook the toast
Place the bread in the pan and cook for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy. - Cook remaining slices
Repeat with the rest, adding more butter if needed. - Stack and serve
Stack the toast, add butter on top, drizzle maple syrup, and garnish with berries and powdered sugar.
Tip:
Use slightly stale sourdough for the best texture—it absorbs the custard perfectly without getting too soggy.
